The Gokstad ship is an important example of a Viking longship, discovered in 1880 in Gokstad, Norway. This impressive naval architecture from the Middle Ages offers a glimpse into the technology, design and tactics of Viking sailors. Constructed with a long and narrow hull, the Gokstad ship had a low center of gravity and was equipped with sails and oars, allowing for fast and stable navigation in a variety of sea conditions. She measured approximately 23.8 metres in length and 5.1 metres in width.
The ship, found in a burial mound along with a wealth of artefacts, provides valuable information about the life of Viking warriors, their trade and military routes and tactics.
