Esmeralda 1:100
Code: 3BB7030Product detailed description
Description: The keel of a new school sailboat for the Spanish Navy was laid in 1946; over the next year, there was a catastrophic explosion in the shipyards, the consequences of which brought the company to the brink of bankruptcy and the work on the ship was stopped. In 1951, ownership of the unfinished ship passed to Chile as part of the settlement of Spain's civil war debts. The sailing ship was then completed, ceremoniously launched in 1953 and christened Esmeralda. With the exception of General Pinochet's coup, which served as a floating prison / torture chamber, Esmeralda serves as a school ship for the Chilean Navy and also participates in international regattas - winning the acclaimed Cutty Sark Trophy in 1982 and 1990.
Esmeralda also has a sister ship, Juan Sebastián Elcano, which serves the Spanish Navy. Esmeralda is designed for advanced shipbuilders; is designed as a non-floating desktop model.
The Esmeralda has a hull of classic wooden construction from laser-cut parts with a plank plating and a wooden deck. The kit contains all the wooden, plastic and metal parts needed to complete the model, mock-up accessories, etc.
