Material: 100% cotton, weight – 125 g/sqm. The cloth was pre-washed.
Description of sails: Set of sail is complete, as included in a real ship. Sails are sewn on CNC sewing machine, hand cut and finished.
The set includes: 9 the yard sails, Spanker, two Jib sails and Stay sails. The cut, reinforcement of the sails corresponds to the historical reality. The cut of these sails is based on historical plans of the ship.
The sails are sewn with all the details to match the style of sewing continental sails during the 17th and 18th centuries. Sails are sewed according to the description from J. Boudriot's book - "LE TROIS-PONTS du chavalier de TOURVILLE 1680" The diagram is attached.
The detailed description of the sails:
- Upper bend sails is in a standard way larger than the side and bottom. Exceptions are fore course, main course and topsails where in the lateral reinforcing strips tapering towards the top.
- "Buntline cloths"are sewed from the lower edge of the sail, from places where the sail ropes were fastened - Buntline. Which was used to furling the sails.
- There is strengthening at the site of reef ropes fastening so called "Reef band". Number of reef strips depends on the number of reefs on sail.
- Topgalantsails, spritsails corse and topsails and other smaller sails are strengthen.
- There are only linings from the back side of topsails (so called “Mast cloths“). These linings prevent wear and tear during chafing sails and Mast Top.
- Staysails and Gibb sails are reinforced at the corners always from the right side when looking at the ship from stern as determined by regulations.
All the aforementioned sails strengthening and linings are from the back side as was on a Continental a sails.
