The model of this ship was designed by Heller technicians based on research of historical documents of ships from the 16th century in the Barcelona Museum. It represents a typical Spanish galleon from this period. These ships were used to transport the new inhabitants, the army and all the necessities that people needed to live in the New World at that time. They carried back the country's ill-gotten wealth, including golden treasures. These ships were also used by Fernando Cortez, the conqueror of Mexico from 1519 onwards, to transport his conquering army. The ships were built with several superstructure decks and balconies to accommodate large numbers of people, materials and animals, including horses. Transport conditions and hygiene were very poor.
The usual dimensions of these ships were:
hull length - 36 m
overall length - 46 m
width of the ship - 9,5 m
overall height from keel to top of mast - 29 m
From the above dimensions it follows that the model is in 1:75 scale. This is also suggested by the fact that Heller used many parts from the Santa Maria model, including the hull. It is also in 1:75 scale.
