Corsair 1:150
Code: 129M/1 129M/2 Choose variantProduct detailed description
This type of ship has been used by sailors in the Mediterranean since the 17th century. This ship is characterized by a large Latin sail on the foremast and one jib sail and two triangular sails on top of it. The after mast carried only one Latin sail. In the Mediterranean it was generally called Tartane or Tartan.
It served as a merchant, fishing boat but because of its speed and easy handling it was used by the military as a messenger of quick messages. And of course, the sailing ship was used by pirates and corsairs. Thus, the ship was armed mostly with 4 guns and several falconets. Tartans served extensively in the Mediterranean until the middle of the last century, when they were displaced by motorboats.
For a detailed description of this type of ship, including rigging, see the book on my website, La Diligente - Tartane do Roi - 1738-1761
Description of the kit - the model is made with standard Heller quality. The parts are moulded, cleanly without any burrs. The wood texture on the decks and the joints on both the deck and the hull are molded very fine, the joints are negative. The number of parts already suggests that the kit is simple and suitable for beginners. The weak point is again the rigging plan, so you have to find other sources of information to realize it. It is definitely an interesting model and worthwhile.
