Yacht Atlantic
Code: 172M/1 172M/2 Choose variantProduct detailed description
Atlantic, built in 1903 for merchant Wilson Marshall, stands out for its unique combination of masts and sails. She was designed with speed and functionality in mind, earning her a reputation as one of the fastest schooners of her time.
In 1905, German Kaiser Wilhelm II initiated a race across the North Atlantic with a massive gold cup for the winner. The schooner Atlantic, skippered by Charlie Barr with Frederick Maxfield Hoyt as navigator, triumphed in strong winds and gales, breaking the previous record with a time of 12 days, 4 hours and 1 minute. This extraordinary feat lasted for 75 years, until 1997 when Nicorette broke it, and for the organized regatta even for almost 100 years until 2005 when Mari-Cha IV set a new record.
