A model of the famous tea clipper made by the now defunct IMAI company. The quality of the individual parts is excellent, the parts fit exactly and are beautifully cleanly moulded. Simply standard quality of this company's mouldings. It's just a pity that some parts are not better detailed, for example the masts are made of one part.
On the other hand, the company did try to make the rendering as easy to assemble but as faithful as possible. The booms are very well done here, and the boom perches for the leeward sails, which the kit also includes, are moulded on. It's just a pity that again a more accurate rigging plan is missing.
If anyone wants to build a larger series of historic ships in a slightly smaller scale than 1:100 - then I highly recommend it, as Fy. IMAI has produced more beautiful models in this scale 1:120.
The ship became famous in the race from China to England, where she carried tea for several years. There were even bets in London as to which ship would be the first to sail from China and bring a shipment of tea from the new crop. She won that race too. Now this last tea clipper sits in dry dock in Greenwich, near London. During repairs and preservation of the ship a few years ago, there was a major fire and the hull was badly damaged. Nevertheless, support for this ship has been raised again, and even the fundraising which was very successful has again funded the restoration. This culminated in the reopening of the ship itself to visitors in May 2012.
Cutty Sark and The Day of Sail - is a small booklet that chronicles the history of the ship, including daily life on board
