USS Gloucester (1891) was originally a yacht named Corsair II. Corsair II was built in 1891 for American businessman and yachting patron, J. Pierpont Morgan. She was purchased by the US Navy in 1898 and commissioned as the light cruiser USS Gloucester during the Spanish-American War.
USS Gloucester played an important role in the Battle of Santiago de Cuba in July 1898, where she and other American ships destroyed or repulsed the Spanish fleet.
After the war, USS Gloucester was deployed in various roles, including service during World War I. After being taken out of service, she was eventually sold in 1920.
