Ramshead Block 12mm Walnut
Code: WAB-RS12Product detailed description
A Ramshead block served as part of the halyard tackle for hoisting the main yard. The tackle was reeved between this block and the blocks in a strong beam embedded in the ship's structure called the Knighthead. The rope in the tackle started fastened to an eye located on the side of the rod – the axis of the blocks. It passed through the Ramshead block and block on knighthead, ending by passing through the last block in the Knighthead and being tied to a cleat on the other side of the Knighthead.
At the top of the Ramshead block, there was an opening for the passage of the halyard rope for the main yard.
This design for hoisting the main yard was used from the old cogs and galleys up until the beginning of the 18th century. It was utilized in various modifications for galleys and xebecs for even longer.
