History on Wikipedia: HERE
Originally launched as the Georg Stage in 1882 in the Danish port of Frederiksværk, the Joseph Conrad has become an important iron-hulled sailing ship. From its inception it served as a training ship for Danish sailors, who acquired skills in sail handling, navigation and seamanship.
In 1935, the ship was purchased by British writer and sailor John H. Conway, who renamed it Joseph Conrad in honour of the English writer of Polish descent, who was also a sailor. After the renaming, the Joseph Conrad became an important element in the training of young sailors and part of the youth education programme.
After Conway's death in 1952, Joseph Conrad underwent several changes in ownership. She was eventually purchased by the World Oceanic Foundation, which carried out a comprehensive refurbishment of the ship and saved her from extinction. Today, the Joseph Conrad is a tourist attraction and museum in Mystic Seaport, Connecticut, USA.
