Sandpiper Armed Schooner
Code: 133M/1 133M/2 Choose variantProduct detailed description
The fate of the Sandpiper is similar to that of the Corsair - the American Privater. The ship was built for commercial purposes, and later during the Civil War was armed. The Sandpiper is not a specific ship, but represented a titanic schooner. The ship had its origins in a Dutch type of ship that was built in the New Your shipyards. Most of these ships were built in Baltimore, hence the name Baltimore Clipper. The ship was very easy to operate, requiring only 20-25 men. This type of ship became literally a legend, and many stories have been written about the fate of these ships and the people who sailed on them. It was used by small traders, fishermen, as well as pirates and buccaneers.
Because of the unclear size of the ship, the scale is therefore difficult to determine. But some features, such as the size of the guns and gunports, indicate that it is a similar scale to the Jolly Roger, which is 1:133. Don't take my word for it, though. I'm no expert in this regard, I'm just comparing the facts. The model is therefore a typical double-masted schooner of 30 m length, with a 7 m long head. The height of the main mast from the keel was just under 36 m. The armament usually consisted of 10 6-pounder guns. The crew consisted of about 80 men.
The design of the model itself is very simple. Even the sails are moulded at the same time as the masts. However, it gives a lot of room for custom modifications, from better gun designs to canvas sails and complete rigging with blocks.
