Mayflower 1:60
Code: 3BB8020Product detailed description
Launched probably in Harwich in the early 17th century, the English cargo ship Mayflower was not large - it measured 95 feet in length and displaced only 180 tons. On August 15, 1620, the Mayflower weighed anchor in Plymouth, England, and headed for the coast of northern Virginia with 102 settlers and about 30 crewmen aboard. After a voyage of 3,000 miles and 67 days, the ship anchored off Cape Cod. Due to unfavorable winds and persistent storms, the ship was unable to reach its originally intended location on the coast. The hardships of the voyage and illness reduced the ship's crew by half; eventually, after several weeks of waiting, the remaining 53 settlers disembarked and established the settlement of New Plymouth in the new country that would eventually become the United States of America. In 1955-6, a faithful replica of the ship was built in Brixham, Devon, UK, using original materials and technology, called the Mayflower II, which eventually crossed the ocean in 1957 and remained permanently in Plymouth, Massachusetts, as a gift to the American people commemorating their alliance in World War II. Mayflower is designed for advanced shipbuilders; she is constructed as a non-floating tabletop layout.
Mayflower has a hull of classic wooden construction of laser-cut parts with sailcloth planking and deck and superstructure. The kit includes all the wooden, plastic and metal parts needed to complete the model, accessories, sails, etc.
