USS Constitution 1:100
Code: 3BB5008Product detailed description
Description: The USS Constitution is one of six large frigates built under the Maritime Act of 1794, which established the United States Navy. Launched in 1797, it was inaugurated in honor of the US Constitution by President George Washington. Compared to the common frigates of its time, it was a significantly larger and more heavily armed ship with 50-54
cannons - although they did not match the British or French regular ships with 70-100 cannons, but all other warships smoothly surpassed. This was demonstrated significantly in the American-British War of 1812-1815, when the Constitution and its sister vessels initially effectively attacked British merchant shipping. The Constitution captured a number of cargo ships and destroyed or captured five British warships, including two frigates with 38 and 40 cannons. But once the victory over Napoleon allowed the British to send a strong squadron of ordinary ships to block the American coast, the Constitution and its sister ships no longer dared to set sail. The Constitution later served as the flagship of the US Squadron, protecting trade in the Mediterranean from pirates from the Barbarian Coast (now Algeria and Tunisia). In 1840, it circumnavigated the world and then served as a school ship for the Naval Academy. It was decommissioned in 1881, then functioned as an accommodation vessel for naval cadets, until in 1907 it became a museum ship. Since then, she has sailed here and there to the sea - for example, between 1931 and 1934 she visited 90 ports on the US coast on a cruise, sailed under her own sails in 1997 to celebrate her 200th birthday and in 2012 to celebrate 200 years since victory over the 38-gun frigate HMS Guerriere. The USS Constitution thus remains the oldest seaworthy warship in the world. Normally moored at Pier 1 of the former naval shipyard in Charlestown, it is currently undergoing extensive overhaul. The USS Constitution is intended for advanced shipbuilders; is designed as a non-floating desktop model.
The USS Constitution has a hull of classic wooden construction from laser-cut parts with a plank plating and a wooden deck. The kit contains all the wooden, plastic and metal parts needed to complete the model, mock-up accessories, tarpaulins, etc.
