Sail description: a set of sails sewn for this model on a CNC machine in a simplified version. The sail set is complete, except for the studding sails. These can be supplied on request: 10 jib sails, 7 stay sails, and 1 spanker sail
The sails are sewn as specified by the English regulations of Admiral Nelson's time, and I have based the details of the sewing on The Elements and Practice of Rigging And Seamanship, 1794, by David Steel. Here it is written that especially as regards the placement of certain elements such as the "Reef band", "Buntline cloths" ... could vary from the set standards according to the period and type of ship.
You can see how the bases for the sail sewing looked like in the attached photo documentation. Drawings of the sails are from the mentioned publication.
Details used in the sewing of the offered sails:
- The top curve of the sails is normally wider than the sides and the bottom curve is wider than the sides.
- At the point of the reefing ropes for the underhaul, the sail is reinforced with a so-called "Reef band". There are several of these on the sails, depending on the number of reefs on the sail.
