Wasa 1:75
Code: 3BB4090Product detailed description
Description: Wasa was a terraced ship of 64 guns built by Dutch builders in a shipyard in Stockholm for the Swedish King Gustav Adolf; it was launched in 1627. It was 230 feet long, 35 feet wide, 14 feet long and 1,400 tons displacement. It was manned by a crew of 133 sailors (they took care of the sails) and 300 soldiers (operating 64 guns) and was one of the most powerful warships not only in the Baltic. And thanks to beautiful carved ornaments, also to the most beautiful. Tall superstructures with heavy ornaments, a high second artillery deck enforced by the royal order, although the original project provided for only one, Wase, along with other design flaws (insufficient ballast weight, low-lying lower cannon deck, whose loopholes the ship tilted when tilting water) became fatal. On the first voyage, still in Stockholm harbor, she overturned and dragged a quarter of the crew to the bottom. It was raised in 1961 and after many years of preservation with a special solution and thorough repair, the "Swedish Titanic" became a jewel of the Maritime Museum in Stockholm. Wasa is designed for advanced shipbuilders; is designed as a non-floating desktop model.
Wasa has a hull of classic wooden construction made of laser-cut parts with a plank plating and a wooden deck. The kit contains all the wooden, plastic and metal parts needed to complete the model, mock-up accessories, tarpaulins, etc.
