In 1907, Jean-Baptiste Charcot launched a new Antarctic expedition and began work on the new Pourquoi-Pas (IV), a three-masted ship designed for polar exploration, equipped with an engine and containing three laboratories and a library. It was built in Saint-Malo to Francois Gautier's plans in his shipyard. The ship took part in many polar expeditions and was a school sailing ship.
This model was originally manufactured by the Heller company. Later also by the Russian firm Zvezda. The model has the same hull as the Brigantine and the Occident. The model is well made.
