Product detailed description

Model kit - Brigantine.
Historical note: The word "brigantine" comes from "brigand" - "pirate, robber" and was originally used in the 16th century to refer to light pirate ships in the Mediterranean Sea. Later, when piracy spread to the stormier waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the type of ship changed, but the name remained the same. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the brigantine had square sails on both masts, and the terms "brigantine" and "brig" (as an abbreviation of the former) had the same meaning.
In the 18th century, brigantines were introduced into naval fleets as courier and reconnaissance ships.
In the mid-19th century, the brigantine finally established itself as a type of sailing ship: it is a small two-masted sailing ship with square sails on the foremast (jib mast) and sloping sails on the second mast (mainmast) with a displacement of about 350 tons.
The brigantine differed from the brig in that it did not have a square main sail. In addition to military service and traditional cargo transport, these sailing ships were also used to transport passengers.
There was a relatively spacious cabin at the stern that could accommodate up to 10 passengers.
Main dimensions: length 46 m, width 9 m, mast height 33 m.

This model was originally produced by Heller. Later, the Russian company Zvezda took over the molds for two other models with the same hull. These are the ships Purqua Pa and Occident. The model is well made and easy to assemble.
